Man charged in Taunton District Court for:
- Larceny Under $1,200, in violation of M.G.L. c. 266, § 30 (1)
Case Overview:
Police were dispatched to BJ’s Wholesale Club for the report of a stolen purse. Upon arrival, police spoke to a woman standing outside the store. The woman informed police that while she was checking out, she put her wristlet down for a second, got distracted when collecting her receipt from the cashier and after she left the store, quickly realized that she did not have it with her. She then returned inside the store and was unable to locate it. Police reviewed the video footage from inside the store and saw a man take the wristlet after the woman unknowingly dropped it on the floor. He then exited the store. Police identified the man through his BJ’s membership identification card after reviewing the cash register log where he purchased his items. Police went to the man’s residence, and when approached by officers, the man immediately stated, “You’re here for the wallet?” After making further admissions, the man returned the wallet to police, which was later determined to be missing $85. The man was criminally charged in Taunton District Court with the crime of Larceny Under $1,200. He retained the Massachusetts criminal defense firm, the Law Office of John L. Case Result: Dismissed
Following ongoing negotiations with the Commonwealth, Attorney Calcagni and his team successfully secured the Commonwealth’s agreement to dismiss the case on the condition that the man pay $85 in restitution to the woman. The man paid the money and his case was dismissed.
