Case Overview:
A woman claims to be the victim of a financial fraud scam. She informed police she arrived at an AT&T Wireless store after purchasing a new phone to obtain some technical support. She asked one of the employees to assist her with setting up her Facebook account on the new phone. The employee informed her he was unable to assist, her but provided her with a phone number to call for assistance. The woman called the number and spoke to an individual who advised her to purchase two separate some Apple gift cards, and then to call a different phone number and provide the numbers on the purchased cards, which she did, and after doing so, the call was disconnected. The woman provided police with the receipts from the gift cards, and the phone numbers she called. Police identified the AT&T Wireless employee provided the woman with the phone number to call for Facebook support. He admitted his actions, but denied any wrongdoing or involvement with a scam. Notwithstanding, police filed an application for criminal complaint against him in Fall River District Court seeking charges for Larceny Under $1,200 by Single Scheme and Conspiracy. The employee summons to appear for a Clerk-Magistrate’s Hearing. Before his appearance, he retained Massachusetts Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to represent him at the hearing.
