Case Overview
Woburn Police were dispatched to a hospital for the report of elder abuse. Upon arrival, police spoke to a 66-year-old disabled man who claimed to be the victim of abuse by his stepdaughter and her husband. He indicated they restricted his access to food and took his monthly Social Security benefits. The man decided to report this alleged abuse to Elder Services. When he informed his stepdaughter and her husband of this, the husband threatened to harm him and took away his cellphone to prevent him from making any further claims. Based on the elder’s claims, police filed criminal complaints against the couple for Abuse on an Elderly/Disabled Person, Threatening to Commit a Crime against the husband, and Witness Intimidation. They retained Massachusetts Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend them in Woburn District Court. After reviewing and analyzing all the evidence and conducting pretrial negotiations, Attorney Calcagni successfully secured the dismissal of all charges against the couple.
