Case Overview
Freetown Police noticed a gray Acura with heavily tinted windows travelling closely to two other vehicles that appeared to be trying to conceal the Acura’s license plate. The police ran the license place on the Acura, which came back to a 1993 red Honda Civic. When the Acura spotted the officer, it merged into the left lane, aggressively accelerated, and a high-speed chase ensued. The Acura fled at speeds of approximately 130 MPH and successfully evaded police. Several hours later, police located the Acura parked in a nearby apartment complex. A man immediately exited his residence when he noticed officers surrounding the vehicle. He informed them that he was the owner of the vehicle and the only one who operates it. The man, who had an active warrant out for his arrest for other motor vehicle infractions, was arrested on the warrant, and also charged with Failure to Stop for Police, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Number Plate Violation to Conceal ID, and Unregistered Motor Vehicle. The man retained Massachusetts Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to represent him in his case. After reviewing and analyzing all the evidence and ongoing negotiations with the prosecution, Attorney Calcagni and his team successfully advocated to place the man on pretrial probation for 18 months (which is essentially a prolonged dismissal, that requires no admission of guilt or acceptance of criminal responsibility, does not constitute a conviction, and results in a dismissal) with no special conditions. Providing the man is not charged with a new offense during this time period, case will be dismissed, and become immediately eligible to be sealed from public record.
