Attleboro Man Charged with 22 Counts of Sex Crimes Found Not Guilty

Case Overview:
A man was indicted in Bristol County Superior Court on 20 counts of sexual assault-related offenses and two counts of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21. These charges stemmed from allegations made by his stepdaughter and her two cousins. His stepdaughter alleged, on numerous occasions over the course of almost 15 years, that the man touched her vagina, buttocks, and breasts, penetrated her vagina, forced her to perform oral sex on him, and penetrated her anus with his penis. One of the cousins alleged, on several occasions over the course of an approximate three-year period, that the man touched her vagina, digitally penetrated her vagina, forced her to perform oral sex on him, and provided her with alcohol when she was a minor. The second cousin alleged, on several occasions over the course of an approximate four-year period, that the man kissed her on the mouth, touched her pelvic area and breasts, digitally and orally penetrated her vagina, and provided her with alcohol when she was a minor. The man hired the Massachusetts Sex Crimes Defense Law Office of John L. Calcagni III, and his law team to represent him in his case.
Case Result: Not Guilty On All Twenty-Two (22) Counts.
After Calcagni secured the man’s release on bail terms and conditions, the case remained pending for almost five years. The man, who always maintained his innocence, ultimately exercised his right to proceed to a jury trial. After considering all the evidence, Calcagni successfully secured the Court’s order to enter a required finding of not guilty on six of the charges, to include, four of the sexual assault charges, and the two providing alcohol to a minor charges. Jury deliberation on the remaining 16 counts lasted for approximately two days and resulted in the jury returning not guilty verdicts on all remaining charges.
